WANDA DIAMOND LEAGUE – DOHA, MAY 10

Melissa Courtney-Bryant (Poole AC) opened her outdoor season in the 1500m at the Diamond League in Doha on Friday night.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Welsh 1500m record holder finished 12th in a high class field in a time of 4:08.46.

IRISH MILERS CLUB – BELFAST, MAY 11

Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) launched her outdoor season with a bang in Belfast by claiming a huge new 400m personal best.

Wales’ fastest ever woman over 100m only stepped up to the one lap sprint last summer, but she now stands fourth in the nation’s all-time 400m rankings.

Brier finished second in the 400m Women’s A Race at the Irish Milers Meeting, clocking a time of 52.25 – slashing more than a second of her previous best time of 53.36 set at this year’s Microplus UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham.

Only Michelle Scutt, Seren Bundy-Davies and Catherine Murphy now stand ahead of Brier in the Welsh rankings.

Not content with her PB, Brier then took on the role of pacemaker in the 800m race where Phoebe Gill set a new European Under-18 record of 1:57.86.

PUMA NITRO LANGE LAUFNACHT – KARLSRUHE, MAY 11

Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) claimed a big new personal best at the Puma Nitro Lange Laufnacht meeting on Saturday.

Having clocked a new personal best over 3,000 in Swansea last month, she plundered a new PB over 5,000m in Germany.

Hughes stopped the clock in 15:21.47 as she finished fourth in Karlsruhe – hacking almost a minute off her previous best of 16:18.30 posted in 2022.

LEE UNIVERSITY - LAST CHANCE – CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE, MAY 11

Bryn Woodall (Colwyn Bay) produced a massive five-second personal best in the United States on Saturday to clock the second fastest 800m by a Welshman this year.

The Milligan College student registered 1:50.27 to finish second in his race and obliterate his previous best for the distance – 1:55.52. Only Justin Davies (Team Bath) has run a faster Welsh 800m time so far this year.

SENIOR HOME COUNTRIES MOUNTAIN INTERNATIONAL – GLENSHEE, SCOTLAND, MAY 11

Multi-talented distance runner Kris Jones (Swansea Harriers/Dark Peak/Dundee Hawkhill) was the highest placed Welsh finisher at the Senior Home Countries Mountain International in Scotland.

A Wales and Great Britain international across a number of running disciplines, Jones claimed a silver medal in the men’s race in 32:34. Gold was won by England’s Joe Steward in a new record time of 31:52.

In the women’s race, there was a team bronze medal for Wales. Katrina Entwistle (Bristol and West) was the highest placed Welsh finisher in 45:34. Meanwhile, team-mates Bethan Logan (Mynydd Du) and Hoolie Ryder (St Albans Striders) clocked 45:58 and 51:03 respectively to earn the bronze medal.

SOMERSET AA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – YEOVIL, MAY 11-12

Wheelchair racer Owen Terrell (Newport Harriers) continued his fine start to the season by claiming a brace of big personal bests on day one in Yeovil.

The T54 under-20 athlete clocked 68.27 in the 400m to improve his previous best of 70.19 and then repeated his PB feat by registering 33.34 in the 200m – smashing his previous best of 42.14.

Day two saw F56 athlete Ellie Bowen (DSW Para Athletics) produce a new PB of 16.93m in the seated discus – eclipsing her previous best of 16.52m.

NORTH WALES REGIONAL OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – DEESIDE, MAY 11

Cai Lewis Jones (Menai Track and Field) enjoyed a good day at the North Wales Regional Championships in Deeside winning the 100m and 200m sprint double in 11.09 and 22.69.

Among the other highlights of the day was the throws double by Lesley Brown (Deeside), who won the senior women’s hammer with 43.14m and 9.51m in the shot put.

SOUTH & EAST WALES REGIONAL OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – ABERDARE, MAY 11-12

Luca Phillips (Cardiff Archers), who won three titles at the England indoor age group championships in Sheffield earlier this year, was again in winning form in Aberdare this weekend.

The Under-17 athlete won the Under-20 long jump with a distance of 6.83m before winning the under-20 and senior men’s 100m in a time of 11.16.

Meanwhile, Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) who won two titles at the indoor age group championships, claimed a sprint double.

On Saturday, Afolabi clocked the fastest time in the under-15 girls 300m time trial when she posted 39.64, while she was also first in the under-15 girls 100m time trial on Sunday with 11.90.

In the under-15 boys shot put, Lachlan Robbie (Cardiff Archers) who is coached by Gwennan Lewis, registered a big new PB of 15.47m to win the competition.

BRYN MEADOWS CAERPHILLY 10K 2024 - MAY 12

Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) followed up his win at last weekend’s Cardiff Race for Victory 5K by winning the men’s race at the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k – the second race in the Welsh 10K Road Race Series.

The Wales and Great Britain international won the race for the third consecutive year and bettered his own record for the course.

Griffiths broke the tape on Sunday in 29:12, ahead of Ben Reynolds (Cardiff Athletics) in 30:57 and Jonathan Butler (Swansea Harriers) in 31:34.

In the women’s race, Lauren Cooper (Western Tempo) was another returning winner as she won for the second year running.

Cooper crossed the line in 36:20, ahead of Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) in 37:17, while Laura Jones (Les Croupiers) was third in 40:56

WEST WALES REGIONAL OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS - SWANSEA, MAY 12

One of the highlights of the day saw Amelia Mitchell (Neath), who is coached by Matthew Richards, record a big new hammer PB of 50.38m to win the male and female combined hammer competition.

Meanwhile, in the under-17, under-20 and senior women’s discus, two of the United Kingdom’s top young throwers were going head to head.

Lucy Harris (Swansea Harriers) and Storm Evans (Carmarthen Harriers) are ranked third and fourth in the country respectively.

Harris came out on top on the day with a winning first round throw of 42.57m, while Evans produced her best of 40.06 in the third round.

Evans gained her revenge in the shot put where she produced a best of 10.60m to finish ahead of Lucy Harris with 9.47m.

AVON COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS – YATE, MAY 12

Under-17 athlete Owen Garrett (Yate), who is coached by Paul Filer, added more than a metre to his personal best when he threw 50.94m to win the discus final in Yate.
