An entire day of athletic entertainment to get you and your family’s heart racing.
The Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon is more than just 13 miles on a Sunday morning! We kick off the running fever on Saturday morning with a full day of fun activities, entertainment and running for all ages and abilities to take part in.
Whether you’re a club runner and want to have a go at our 3K race yourself, simply sit back and watch some of the best club athletes take on our all-new 3K course, or have a go in our family fun run and toddler races, there’s lots to get your pulse racing.
With smiling faces, fancy dress, and (fingers crossed) a bright blue sky, the Cardiff University Festival of Running will once again prove to be a thrilling start to the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon weekend.
We encourage people to run for our charity partner NSPCC. If you choose to run for #TeamNSPCC, you’ll be running to rebuild the lives of children who have been abused in the UK. As a team, you’ll be preventing any more abuse and neglect.
CARDIFF UNIVERSITY FAMILY FUN RUN
Route: 2 laps around the Cardiff Civic Centre, starting outside Cardiff City Hall
Get the whole family involved in the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon race weekend by signing up to the Cardiff University, Family Fun Run on Saturday 6th October.
Perfectly suited to all ages and abilities, the 2.4km route loops twice around Cardiff’s Civic Centre, Alexandria Gardens and North Road.
There’s no pressure to record fast times or even run all the way round. Instead, dig out your best fancy dress, drag along the rest of your family and friends and enjoy the experience. There’ll be plenty to keep you going all the way round and with a vibrant atmosphere and loads of support from the crowd, you’ll be round the course in no time with a big beaming smile across your face. On completion of the race, each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.
There are no age limits for the race, but children under eight must be accompanied by an adult, and unaccompanied children must be brought to the start and met at the fun run exit. A race pack will be sent to you in the post.
A fun 100m dash in front of Cardiff’s City Hall, aimed at children agred three and under.
In 2018, we will be offering 3km races for club runners in U13 through to U20 age groups. These will replace the Welsh Mile Championships that were offered in recent years.
Come and cheer on your favourite mascot as they compete for the ultimate prize in the 100m Mascot race. Last year’s race saw a hugely competitive field lineup on the start line, and this year many will be back to compete again alongside some other hotly tipped mascots.
COME AND TRY SPORTS ACTIVITIES
If you and your family still have energy to burn, throughout the day you’ll also find a host of Come and Try sports activities to take part in.
Provided by Welsh Athletics and Sport Cardiff, you’ll find all sorts of sports to take part in and have a go at on the City Hall lawns. Come along for free on the day and explore everything on offer.
