McCain Liverpool Cross Challenge

Wales had a succesful day at the European Championships Trial in Liverpool on Saturday.

Charlie Hulson (Sale Harriers) competed in the Junior Men's race as part of a Welsh representative team. Charlie finished an excellent third earning selection for the European Championships in Budapest next month.

Caryl Jones began the women's race as one of the race favourites following amongst other recent victories, her win at the Bristol Cross Challenge in October. Caryl lived up to expectation in fourth place and as second Senior in a race won by U23 lady Jess Coulson (Stockport).

Dewi similarly began this race follwing a victory at the season opener in Bristol where he beat former Cross Challenge Champion Frank Tickner. Dewi finished sixth U23 also sealing an automatic selection spot for the European Championships.

The Senior races also featured a trial for the European Clubs Championships with England, Scotland and Wales all nominating a club team to compete for the chance to race at the European Clubs Championsips. Swansea were the Welsh nominated teams and competed bravely in both the men's and women's races however, Birchfield ladies and the Central Scotland men's teams proved too strong on this occasion.

in addition to three Welsh athletes sealing their places on the plane for Budapest, there was a convincing victory for Jac Hopkins (Swansea Harriers) in the U17 Men's race.

Charlie Hulson was joined in the Welsh team by Chris Carpanini (Newport Harriers) 19th and Mike Ward (Cardiff AAC) 45th.

In the Junior Women's race three athletes also represented Wales. Ffion Price (Brecon AC) finished 17th, Sarah Livett (Menai) 36th and Rhianwedd Price (Brecon AC) 44th.

Wales will host the fourth fixture in the McCain Cross Challenge Series on January 20th.

From end of M62, turn left onto A5058 (Queens Drive).  After approximately ½ mile, go straight over ‘Fiveways’ roundabout continuing on A5058.  Continue over next roundabout and through traffic signals.  After approximately ¾ mile, A5058 enters Sefton Park and onto it’s perimeter drive.  Continue round the perimeter drive to the Review Field.

Vehicle parking is on the carriageway of the perimeter drive.
