Saturday 19th November saw the staging of the second Welsh Athletics Clubs Conference attended by over 50 delegates from 21 different clubs across Wales.
Following on from the success of the inaugural event in 2015, the conference covered a number of key clubs topics. Josh Hoole (Digital Development Company) made a welcomed return opening and closing the conference delivering two presentations covering; ‘the use of technology to promote and sustain your organisation’ and ‘developing a digital strategy’.
There were club case studies from; Lliswerry Runners, Rhymney Valley AC, Pont-y-Pwl & District Runners and Cardiff Archers who all presented on models of good practice whilst Melissa Anderson of Valleys Gymnastics Academy presented the model adopted to develop a vibrant and commercially viable gymnastics club which provided an excellent learning opportunity.
Michelle Daltry of Disability Sport Wales provided an update on developing inclusive environments for athletes of all abilities whilst fast paced ‘Club Essentials: Power Hour’ featured updates regarding; Anti-Doping, Funding and Grant Aid, The UK Members Council and Physical Preparation.
Chris Moss (Development Manager) added;
“The conference was once again one of the highlights of the year from a club development perspective. We are extremely grateful to all those that presented and all of clubs that provided excellent examples of good practice - willing to share their experiences with other clubs. Once again the feedback has been excellent and the clubs that attended were certainly more than appreciative of the content, perhaps more notable this year was the range of new and more dynamic clubs that attended and took advantage of the opportunity compared with the more traditional clubs that were sadly missing”.
