Whether you have enjoyed taking part in athletics at school, through a community scheme or are a complete newcomer to the sport, the best options to progress in the world of athletics are to join an athletics club or take part in our development initiatives.
Why join a club?
Besides the many social advantages of being involved with a club, athletics clubs also offer a number of further benefits of membership.
By becoming a member of a club, you will be able to access competition through league fixtures to which the club is affiliated, as well as access to championships and reduced entry fees for road races. Many clubs offer multi discipline competition opportunities; in winter months this usually includes road running, cross country, mountain and trail running and indoor track and field competition, while in the summer months the focus shifts towards outdoor track and field and road running competition.
Clubs also offer qualified and in many cases vastly experienced coaching staff to assist with your development regardless of age or ability. Much of this training and coaching is carried out at a dedicated athletics facility providing athlete development across many areas of the sport.

There are several development initiatives available throughout Wales to young athletes at every stage of their development. These athletics initiatives are designed to engage, retain and develop the talents of young aspiring athletes. The major initiatives across Wales organised by Welsh Athletics include the Run Jump Throw scheme and some of the initiatives part of the Aviva UKA Academy, such as Sportshall and Startrack.
