Run with the Wind & Field Events - 1 May - Preview

Welsh Athletics’ first outdoor track and field meeting of the season – Run with the Wind and Field Events - has attracted an impressive line-up.
Entries for Wednesday evening’s event at Cardiff’s International Sports Campus include two reigning para athletics world champions, a new world record holder and some of the most promising young sprinters in the United Kingdom.
With this year’s Para Athletics World Championships on the horizon later in the month, the event has attracted several Great Britain athletes heading for Kobe.
Leading the list of entries in the throws are reigning para world champions Aled Davies (Cardiff Athletics) and Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AC).
Five-time world champion Davies is entered in the shot put, alongside Fortune, who won gold in the F20 shot put last time round at the World Championships in Paris.
Also entered in the shot put are World Championships fourth placer Funmi Oduwaiye (DSW Para Athletics) and Commonwealth Games athlete Julie Rogers (DSW Para Athletics).
Another Kobe-bound competitor Harrison Walsh (DSW Para Athletics) lines up in the discus alongside new F38 discus world record holder Michael Jenkins (Pembrokeshire).
Elsewhere, multi-eventer Lauren Davies (Cardiff Athletics), who represented Wales in the heptathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, will be in for a busy evening as she is entered in the shot put and the 100 hurdles on the track.
As well as established internationals like Sam Gordon, Josh Brown and Arron Owen (all Cardiff Athletics), the sprint events will also feature some of Wales's top young talents including Commonwealth Youth para athletes Tomi Roberts-Jones (Newport Harriers) and Will Bishop (DSW Para Athletics).
British under-15 indoor 200m record holder Aliyah Afolabi (Cardiff Archers) is entered in the 100 and 200m.
The 100m also boasts Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) - currently ranked the number one British under-17 athlete over 60m and 100m.
The event has also attracted quality entries from across the border, including double European youth medallist Faith Akinbileje (Blackheath and Bromley Harriers) who lines up in the 100m races, along with T38 Paralympic gold medallist Thomas Young (Loughborough Students AC.)
The first event of the evening starts at 5.45pm.
